A colorful, well-worn village cookbook open to a traditional El Águila recipe, its slightly curled pages speckled with faint flour marks and handwritten notes in the margins. The book rests on a rustic wooden table with visible grain and sun-faded paint in soft turquoise and coral, echoing the playful spirit of the town. Around it, neatly arranged ceramic bowls overflow with bright local ingredients: glossy red peppers, emerald herbs, and golden corn. Warm afternoon sunlight filters through an unseen window, casting gentle, dappled shadows and emphasizing textures. Shot at eye level with a shallow depth of field, the cookbook title “Fiesta en el Águila” is in sharp focus, while the background of blurred tiled walls and hanging utensils creates a vibrant, photographic realism that feels inviting and joyful.

Welcome:

This is a website about a small Mexican Village in the hills of Eastern Guanajuato State. It is a story about a small elementary school with only 30 students. The story includes not only the school but a shared enjoyment by the town’s mothers to be hospitable and thankful for what they have. The town has about 60 families. Many of the fathers work in the north…sending back money to their families. Other fathers work locally as laborers in the fields or in local farms.

A panoramic, bird’s-eye photographic view of the countryside surrounding El Águila, focusing on the winding road that leads to the village. The landscape is a tapestry of patchwork fields in varying greens and earthy browns, bordered by low stone walls and small groves of trees. In the distance, the clustered red-tiled roofs of the village peek out, with the primary school building subtly highlighted by its brighter facade and small playground. Soft, hazy late-morning sunlight filters through thin clouds, creating a gentle, dreamy atmosphere with muted shadows and a sense of depth. The composition uses sweeping lines to guide the eye toward the village, evoking a welcoming, adventurous, and slightly whimsical mood that hints at the tours offered there.
A close-up, photographic shot of a vibrant fiesta table in El Águila, artfully arranged with traditional dishes from the community cookbook, though no diners are present. Colorful ceramic plates brim with roasted vegetables, handmade tortillas, and aromatic stews, each dish garnished with fresh herbs and citrus wedges. A bright woven table runner in zigzags of magenta, teal, and yellow stretches down the center, accompanied by small clay bowls of salsas and a simple vase of wildflowers. Warm evening light from string lights above casts a golden glow and soft circular bokeh in the background, highlighting steam rising gently from the food. Captured at table height with a shallow depth of field, the front dishes are in crisp focus, creating a festive, inviting, and playful atmosphere that celebrates El Águila’s flavors.

Tours to the Campo

An inviting entrance of the primary school of El Águila, photographed with no people present, featuring a freshly painted facade in soft cream with playful accents of sky blue and bright orange. The school’s name is hand-painted above the doorway in cheerful, slightly whimsical lettering. Colorful student-made murals of local animals, fields, and village scenes decorate the lower walls. A small garden bed with blooming marigolds and geraniums flanks the simple gate, and a donated wooden bench sits nearby. Gentle mid-morning sunlight casts soft shadows from a nearby tree, creating lively patterns on the ground. Shot from eye level with a balanced, centered composition and sharp focus, the image radiates warmth, hope, and community spirit in a realistic, vibrant photographic style.

Every two months, the mothers of the town, with the help of a group of expat organizers from San Miguel de Allende arrange for a tour of the pueblo and neighboring farms and sites of interest. The day begin at 10:30 in San Miguel with transportation to El Águila.
